Black Highlighter makes it easy to hide text in images you want to share. Black Highlighter’s “Magic Highlighting” feature automatically detects text in images and helps you make nice, even redactions in your photos and screenshots.

App Integrations

Black Highlighter works with your favorite apps to hide text from anywhere.

Shortcuts

Black Highlighter supports the X-Callback-URL scheme to perform actions from within shortcuts built in the Shortcuts app.

Highlight Last Screenshot is an example shortcut that finds the last screenshot that was taken on your iPhone or iPad and opens it in Black Highlighter.

Latest Release

2025.1 — June 2, 2025

Black Highlighter 25.1 includes a bunch of new enhancements for Shortcuts.

Unified Action

All redaction actions have been combined into a single unified action, making it easier to find the action you need. The single “Redact Image” action includes the ability to redact specific words, detect personal information, or just redact everything.

Auto-Hidden List Actions

Three actions support the ability to manage your auto-hidden words list inside Shortcuts. Get the list, add, or remove words from it, all in Shortcuts.

Output Formats

The unified redact action has an option to specify what file format to use when redacting: match the input, or export as either PNG, JPEG, or HEIC.

Bug Fix

When deleting a word from the auto-hidden words list, other words maintain their active state instead of being reset to active.
